Kairos Retreats for Juniors and Seniors
The word Kairos means "the Lord’s time." It is a special time which extends from 4:00 p.m. on a Thursday until 6:00 p.m. the following Sunday evening and is spent at Camp Egan in Tahlequah, OK.
During the Lord’s time, a team of students and faculty members from Cascia Hall and Bishop Kelley High Schools give talks, lead discussions, activities, prayer and celebrate the Eucharist with the participants.
The Kairos retreat program is basically an adaptation of the adult “Cursillo” for seniors in high school; it is extraordinarily appropriate and cohesive in its theology and philosophy. Originally called the “Christian Awakening Program," it was developed in 1965 by a team of priests, brothers, and laymen.
Kairos is not coed for the student retreatants or student team. The adult team is evenly balanced between female and male faculty/staff members from each school.
Each retreat consists of 34 total students candidates from Bishop Kelley (LaSallian) and Cascia Hall (Augustinian) and 6 student team members (3 from each school) and adult/faculty team members (6 from each school) including the Director and Assistant Director. There are provisions made to take two faculty/staff members as candidates one each Kairos.
On the first boys' Kairos and the last girls' Kairos, three juniors from each school are selected to field a student team for the coming school year.
